It’s an incredible addition to any live stream for adding a personal touch and spreading excitement. They allow you to express gratitude to viewers who show their support by subscribing and warmly welcome new followers to your channel – and that’s just the beginning!

How do I use Stream Alerts?

Providers such as Streamlabs and StreamElements are the go-to tools to add alerts. They have developed a system to communicate with live streaming platforms such as Twitch, YouTube and Kick* (not yet working as of June 18, 2023). After you’ve signed up to one of these services you have access to a range of tools, including alerts.

Both Streamlabs and StreamElements will provide you with a URL to copy and paste into your streaming software (such as OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop) as a ‘Browser Source’. Whenever an event happens, the relevant alert will trigger and display in the ‘Browser Source’.

How do I make Stream Alerts?

To make stream alerts, you have a few different options depending on your technical skills and preferences.

  • Built-in alert features from Streamlabs and StreamElements
    • Streamlabs and StreamElements both provide default alerts as well as a library of decent alert designs. It’s worth exploring these if you’re just starting out or wish to get up and running immediately.
  • Code your own custom alerts
    • For those with coding skills wanting complete control over the design and functionality of their alerts, coding custom alerts is an option. With knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript code you could develop your own custom alerts for use with Streamlabs and StreamElements. Looking at existing pre-made alerts code could give some insight into how each service communicates and pulls the relevant information for the alert. The knowledge of Photoshop or After Effects is a good addition to create custom graphics and animations.
  • Customize existing templates
    • If you don’t want the default alerts, but don’t have the time or knowledge to code your own from scratch, you can start with pre-made alerts and then customize them to suit your needs. See the next section.
