Razer Bought StreamElements: What Changes for You

Razer bought StreamElements, and if you’re running our alerts or overlays through it, they keep working exactly as they did yesterday. There’s no migration and nothing breaks today. There are two dates to know about though, and one of them involves your tip money.

Does anything break?

No, and Razer’s acquisition FAQ is specific about it. StreamElements keeps running as a standalone platform under a Razer subsidiary, and they say the brand, the team, the product and the mission all stay the same. Overlays, on-stream alerts, the chatbot, tipping pages, SE.Merch, SE.Live and sponsorships all continue without interruption.

Your account, settings, overlays and history stay as they are, your login doesn’t change, and everything still works with OBS, Streamlabs Desktop and XSplit. So that browser source pointing at a StreamElements overlay URL, which is the thing you’d actually notice breaking, is fine.

What do I actually have to do?

Two things, and only one of them touches your money.

1. Accept the updated privacy policy. It took effect August 1, 2026, and Razer says you need to accept it to keep your tools running without a break.
2. Sort your SEPay balance before December 31, 2026. Whatever is sitting in there can be withdrawn until that date, and to keep earning tips afterward you need a PayPal account connected to your StreamElements profile.

That second one is the only real product change in the whole announcement, so don’t let all the “nothing changes” talk make you skip it. If you’ve got a balance sitting there, go withdraw it and connect PayPal while you’re thinking about it, because December arrives faster than you expect.

Does my Nerd or Die pack still work?

Yes. Here’s why. Our packs aren’t a StreamElements product. Installing one means uploading your media, pasting in widget code, and pointing a browser source at an overlay URL, so what you own is the design files on your drive. StreamElements just displays them, and that’s true of every alert pack we sell. All overlays include the original design files, as well as a quick install for StreamElements.

That’s also why our stuff runs on Streamlabs and in plain OBS. If you ever switch platforms you set things up again, but you don’t buy anything twice. Our free overlays and alerts install the same way if you want to test that before committing.

Should I switch from StreamElements?

Not because of this, no. Switching means redoing your alerts and testing everything on stream again, and right now there’s no reason to. It’s worth thinking about if PayPal doesn’t work where you live, or if you were already unhappy before any of this happened.

Plain OBS with local files is the only setup no company can take away from you. It’s also the most setup work, so that’s the tradeoff.

That said… maybe we’re working on something for that.

How do I back up my StreamElements overlays?

This takes maybe ten minutes, and honestly you should do it no matter what platform you’re on.

1. Open your overlay in the StreamElements editor and export it.
2. Save the original files you uploaded, the alert videos, sounds and images, into one folder you’ll actually find later. If you own a Nerd or Die pack, the original files are included with your download.
3. Screenshot your alert settings, the durations, fonts and sound levels, so you can set everything back up the same way.
4. Withdraw your SEPay balance and connect PayPal while you’re in there.

What nobody has answered yet

Two things worth watching. OBS.Live isn’t mentioned anywhere in the announcement or the FAQ, so there’s no promise it continues and no notice that it’s going away. And if PayPal doesn’t work well where you live, there’s no alternative payout route you can count on yet. If either matters to you, that’s what I’d be asking them about.
